Justin Roberts & the Not Ready for Naptime Players
Unexpectedly Intelligent and Whimsically Rocking Music for Kids
Three-time GRAMMY Nominee Justin Roberts is truly one of the “all-stars” of the indie family music scene. For more than 20 years, Justin has been creating the soundtrack to families’ lives, crafting songs that navigate the joys and sorrows of growing up. Justin’s latest recording for families titled Lemonade, is “an absolute gem” according to Paste Magazine. He logs thousands of miles on the road each year performing for his devoted fan base. Live shows include classics like the fist-pumping “Pop Fly” and parent favorite, “Stay-At-Home Dad” with its very own 80’s pop anthem song break. It’s the spontaneity and humor that really shows the band’s polish and love of performing for young audiences. That’s what’s made Justin Roberts one of the genre’s most enduring musicians.
Justin Roberts knows that inside every one of us there is a mini rocker waiting to come out. You don’t have to have fancy instruments or a pitch-perfect voice to make it happen- just a shoebox, some rubber bands, a little elbow grease, and you’re on your way! Three-time Grammy® nominated children’s musician Justin Roberts has been creating the soundtrack to families’ lives for 20 years, and now with his latest concert program, Be Your Own Band, Justin gets kids started on their own rock journey by making simple homemade instruments out of everyday objects, right there on stage. Incorporated into a concert of his fun, interactive, and highly sophisticated songs, it’s a brand-new way to experience one of the genre’s most beloved musicians.
In 2014, Justin composed a musical, Hansel & Gretel: A Wickedly Delicious Musical Treat with renowned playwright, Ernie Nolan. A new touring production featuring stunning animated projections produced by Valley Performing Arts Center and Playhouse Square premiered on January 22, 2017 in Los Angeles and toured the US in 2017.
Justin is the proud author of two picture books published by G.P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young Readers. The Smallest Girl in the Smallest Grade, illustrated by Christian Robinson, is inspired by his beloved song, “Billy the Bully” and has been incorporated into classrooms across the country. In The Great Henry Hopendower, illustrated by Deborah Hocking, a young boy remembers his much-loved grandpa.
Justin Roberts offers songwriting workshops for kids of all ages.
“He has a remarkable ability to see through a child’s eyes… the Judy Blume of kiddie rock.”
