Jazzy Ash & the Leaping Lizards

New Orleans Jazz for the Whole Family

Jazzy Ash invites the whole family to come along on a Crescent City inspired, jazzy music adventure with her band the Leaping Lizards. Jazzy Ash’s songs celebrate the magic of movement, with a lot of sugar and sass thrown in, New Orleans–style. Her latest album, Swing Set features 14 classic songs, rhythms and rhymes that celebrate a tradition handed down by African-American children, adults, and musicians from the mid-19th century to the early jazz era. Arranged and enhanced for a new generation, Jazzy Ash’s music encourages kids and their grown-ups to celebrate the music of New Orleans as part of the American folk music heritage.

In concert, Jazzy Ash & the Leaping Lizards perform originals like “Throw Me Something Mista” that conjures the spirit of a Mardi Gras parade as well as jazz standards including “When the Saints go Marching In” and Louis Armstrong’s  “Heebie Jeebies” in front of gorgeous projected images of New Orleans, Congo Square, the Louisiana bayou and even a field of fireflies.

An early childhood education specialist and accomplished ukulele teacher, Jazzy Ash offers workshops for both teachers and students.

"Jazzy Ash makes old songs joyous for new listeners while she acknowledges the creators of the work. Imagine a world where the music of your ancestors and the music of your descendants comes together and gets you dancing..."
